#1 World Cup Marathon at Sabie
This weekend was the #1 World Cup Marathon at Sabie, what a gorgeous place to be and race. I was ready to take on the challenge of another marathon after doing Barberton. It was great seeing such a good field of women on the start line, which included some internationals too.
We were off with excitement buzzing all around us as we followed the lead car out, getting ready to take on the battle through the hills of Sabie. I was able to stay with the main bunch in the beginning and kept the leaders in sight, but after about 30km into the race my legs were like jelly waiting for the downhills. My mission became to just finish the race, this becomes a true test of where your mental strength lies and how hard to can bite your lip and dig deep.
Thank you to Philip Vosloo and his family for the fresh bottle of juice, chain lube and huge support at the 47km water/tech point. It makes such a difference to ones motivation. Yes it was a hard race but it can only make one stronger and get back out there pushing the limits more!
I was so happy when I had crossed the finish line after a long day in the saddle. To sit and have a nice ice cold coke at the end I was able to regain a smile on my race. A great well done to my team mates: Candice Neethling finsh 5Th, to Simone Vosloo for finishing her first marathon and to Ester for having a good ride. It was a perfect race for the BMC Fourstroke FS01 taking on all the bumbs and rocks on the climbs, I was very happy to have had the bike i did.
To everyone that shared the special weekend with us thank you, it was great!!
The next events will be all leading up to the World Cup XCO in Pietermaritzburg, which has an amazing course, keep reading to see what one can expect….
