SA XCO Cup Series #1

We arrived in Cape Town Wednesday evening after a long 15-16hour drive to the venue of the first cross-country race of the season. Bubbling to get the legs on the bike the following day to test out the race course in Durbanville.
On Thursday morning we checked our bikes out and made some quick adjustments before heading to the course. Here we met our team mates, where we were ready to rock & roll out on the course. The course was a great spectator friendly course; one could see the riders on 90% of the track from Willowbridge Mall attracting many eyes to the racing on Saturday.
Friday was spent well as we looked for the best lines and got the legs ready for tomorrow.
Saturday was race day!!!! Here the elite women, U23 women, Junior women and youth women were all placed in the starting zone, which were then started with 1 minute gabs. It was quite a start as we had a straight patch for a few meters then went straight into a turn with stairs. My team mate Candice Neethling and I managed to get to the front of the U23 group.
My first lap went well with legs feeling good keeping a steady distance between Candice. Onto the second lap the gap grew a bit which was okay as throughout the course I could always see my competitors. My third and fourth lap didn’t go down to well, this is where the connection between your mind and body comes into play.
I managed to cross the finish line in second place behind Candice, I was happy with the position just not my race. But smiles all around as we stood up on the podium with BMC taking first and second looking very impressive, I felt very proud to stand up there representing BMC-SA.
A big WELL DONE!!! Goes to my team mates as there were very impressive results from all the BMC and Ellsworth riders.
Excited to have started the cross-country season I cannot wait to see what lies ahead.
The next race is at Giba Gorge where we will be racing in the first leg of the momentum XCO series, come support!!
